Barog is a destination for camping


Barog, in Himachal Pradesh is located at an altitude of 6,000 feet, above mean sea level. It is a very famous tourist destination, in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Although, it is a small village, that started its civilization, in early 20th century. This place became famous, due to the connecting rail-head from Kalka to Shimla. It is a cute little place, that has emerged over the years. It is about 60 kilometre from Chandigarh, and falls on Kalka Shimla National Highway. The railway station of Barog is the most prettiest railway station over the whole track.


History of Barog, Himachal Pradesh 


Barog got its name, from an engineer, whose name was Barog. It was due to his efforts, that a huge tunnel was constructed through the mountain. He gave an idea to make the tunnel, from both the sides of the Mountain. To make the process fast, but after some time it was observed that; due to wrong calculations, both the ends did not met and whole work went in vain. This resulted in imposition of fine of rupee one, by the British government on him. The embarrassment made him to commit suicide. His body was buried, in the premises of the tunnel, and later the name of the village was coined as Barog. After that, new appointment of the engineer, named H.S. Harrington took place who became, the Chief Engineer in railways. He completed the construction of the tunnel successfully. This Tunnel is one of the longest tunnel, that connects Kalka Shimla. It is about 1,140 metres long. It is also known as, the straightest tunnel in the world.

There are many tourist destinations in Barog. Choor-Chandni peak is one of the famous tourist destination of the region. Other tourist destinations are Shiv Temple, Monastery and Renuka lake. The place is surrounded by pinewoods, which makes a pleasant Valley; with awesome views. This place is also emerging, as a famous conference destination for businessmen.

What is the weather like in Barog


Climate of Barog is always decent. It is cool in summers and in very rare conditions, it can get snowfall in winters. The temperature hovers between, 10 degree Celsius to 23 degree Celsius in summers, whereas 15 degree Celsius to 5 degree Celsius in winters. The summers are from April to July, whereas, winters start from December till February. The best time to visit Barog, Himachal Pradesh is whole year.

Airways: The closest Airport is Jubbar-hatti at Shimla, which is 65 kilometre away.

Railways: Barog is connected by the mountain train, nearest railhead is at Kalka, 23 kilometre away.

Roadways: Barog lies between, Shimla - Kalka highway and, there are many buses connecting the destination.
