Himachal Pradesh celebrates its Himachal Day on 15th April every year

It was on 15th of April when, Himachal was founded. The very first Himachal Day of the state was celebrated on 15th April 1948 and it continued after that every year.

Why is Himachal Day celebrated? - History

Prior to independence of India, it was under Punjab state and it was divided into 4 different parts. The four different parts before independence of India were, Chamba, Mandi Shimla, and Lahaul and Spiti. As soon as India got independence in 1948, the state of Himachal Pradesh was declared as union territory. This is the only time, when Himachal Day was celebrated for the first time. Soon, the years passed and it was experienced to make Himachal Pradesh, an independent state of Republic of India. Therefore, in the year 1971, this union territory turned into independent state of India. Exactly ,it was 15th April, 1971 and Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state of the country.

69th Himachal Day celebrations 


On this day of 15 April, 2016; the state is celebrating its 69th Himachal Day, in different parts of the state. On this very day, the Chief Minister takes part and students perform in various activities depicting Himachal culture and tradition. Special parade is also organised by different security departments. Himachal Day is celebrated on the Ridge ground at Shimla. So, if you happen to be there, do visit the ground and  celebrate the Himachal Day.
