Legend behind Jakhu Temple

Legend goes like this. Hanuman committed to get life saving herb Sanjeevani Buti. He did so, in order to save Laxman; brother of Rama. These characters/Gods are from Ramayana. Laxman got injured in a war against Ravan's Kingdom. Only way to save him was this herb. After getting him this herb from Himalayas, Laxman got consciousness back. The excess of herb was to be taken back, therefore, it is believed that Hanuman took a rest on this hill and due to the load of his foot; carrying the whole herb planted rock, the top of Jakhu Hill got flat. Therefore, this place became sacred. A very large Hanuman statue has been also constructed, which is visible from every part of Shimla. You will be escorted by monkeys on your journey and perhaps, checked by monkeys for some eatables as well. Therefore, have an awesome journey to the temple.
