It was on 15th of April when, Himachal was founded. The very first Himachal Day of the state was celebrated on 15th April 1948 and it continued after that every year.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the best States of India. It is located in the Northern region of India. The state experiences heavy snowfall in winters. The four different parts before independence of India were, Chamba, Mandi Shimla, and Lahaul and Spiti. As soon as India got independence in 1948, the state of Himachal Pradesh was declared as union territory. This is the only time, when Himachal Day was celebrated for the first time. Soon, the years passed and it was experienced to make Himachal Pradesh, an independent state of Republic of India. Therefore, in the year 1971, this union territory turned into independent state of India. Exactly ,it was 15th April, 1971 and Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state of the country.

The state covers about 55,000 square kilometer area, which is situated in the land of varied terrain. The state contains hilly ranges, as well as little sloppy planes. The state has 12 districts namely Chamba, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kangra, Solan, Sirmour, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Una. The capital of Himachal Pradesh is Shimla. This is a  famous city of Himachal Pradesh where about 35% of the people live in the city. All the important government organisations, as well as other Important National departments, are situated here at Shimla. This is 17th biggest state of the country area wise; the population of Himachal Pradesh,  comes at 28th number state wise.

The state of Himachal Pradesh is situated in the center of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Tibet border. The state of Himachal Pradesh is connected to National Highway 22, Rail-heads and Airways.

On this day of 15 April, 2016; the state is celebrating its 69th Himachal Day, in different parts of the state. On this very day, the Chief Minister takes part and students perform in various activities depicting Himachal culture and tradition. Special parade is also organised by different security departments. Himachal Day is celebrated on the Ridge ground at Shimla.
